Whenever "Depends" or adult diapers come up in an everyday conversation, I always chuckle internally, but also worry about loosing my composure, looking nervous, suspicious, etc.
Does anyone else find them in the same situation?

I used to be weirded out or offput. Would mainly act like someone never said anything.
My mom, sister, and I all work in a residential home as of last year so we talk about diapers on a daily basis. Resident we care for wears to bed and we have two other guys coming in soon that are both incontinent(wearing 24/7). This job has helped me feel more comfortable talking about diapers, fortunately. Basically getting the thought out of my head that when I’m talking about diapers, it doesn’t mean my family thinks I like to wear them(although my sister is aware I’m a little lol).

I've learnt to play it off cool. I say what anyone outside the DL/AB/IC sphere would say. Adult diapers never really came up in conversation aside from a joke here or there or a comment regarding the price of adult diapers, (Something like "Can you imagine actually needing these and being forced to pay this much?"). Internally though I get a bit nervous, still a bit freaked out to hear talk of them.

It's been a while since this subject came up in any type of conversation and my comment was I don't see anything wrong with wearing diapers and the rest of the people kinda half assed agreed which made me suspect some of them might be DL or AB but overall the conversation was interesting

Nowadays I don't even bat an eye at diapers being the topic of discussion. Years ago I know I would get uncomfortable and always afraid I'd say something that would lead others to think I was into diapers so I would just stay quiet or avoid any kind of response to said discussion.

I've had a few moments that got a little awkward:
The first one is anytime I'm over at a friend's place watching the fights and or games on TV there will be a depends for men's commercial come on and I can't help it but go silent
And the other one was one time at work I was wearing a boosted medical diaper and my good friend/ other stores manager walked up behind me and patted me on the back side( thank God I was wearing snowpants and long underwear over my diaper) then he continued to walk over to a price sheet for parts for a scissor lift, then out of the blue he said holy cow diapers are expensive ( diapers for a scissor lift are sized to fit mats that attach to the underbelly of the machine to prevent oils and grease leaking on to the floor of building) i immediately got nervous and went quiet.

That always makes me feel awkward, I just try to stay natural. I remember my partner and her friend having a phone conversation about their ibs issues and joking about needing pampers! It certainly let my imagination run wild

Generally speaking, if someone brings up adult diapers in conversation, they're often being low-key denigrating and/or childish. I wouldn't say I might it much if at all, but I'm generally disinterested in contributing to the topic at hand if I even acknowledge it.

When I was working in a large office, I used to count my day a success if I heard a woman say 'diaper.' Call me shallow, but that entertained me.
I cannot recall a single instance of someone discussing ABDL, but I'm always interested in any discussion of diapers. I don't participate much - if at all - but my mental recorder is always alert for something I might want to replay again at some point.

Usually it's followed quickly by the diaper stigma
causing a significant negative connotation about diapers
but i just smile & nodd
knowing inside if only they knew there were better products
and yes I've brought up suggestions before it always goes poorly so now I say nothing

I remember when my wife was expecting our first kid and a colleague was hosting a baby shower for us. Colleague had toddler triplets at the time, and one needed a change. She offered to show me how to change a diaper; I just smiled and said "I'm good."

I told my friend several months ago about my ABDL side and yesterday I joked with him when we were at the park, he said is that the restroom? I said yeah, I can also give you one of my diapers after all, you said you used to want to go back into diapers when you were little. I said that as a joke, which was very well received. I wouldn't give him one unless he asked because this is my thing not his.

Now having been U-IC for near 47 years, most folks know that I wear and discussions commonly come-up as individuals are faced with needing to add protection to their daily use and are asking for recommendations!

Like @Edgewater, my family and friends have known of my issues for more than 20 years now. Sure, there's the off color jokes but ball busting goes both ways and I've been a HUGE ball buster my entire life. I mean, fuck-it! You only spend a very short, finite period of time on this blue marble. May as well enjoy as much of it as you possibly can.
Now, I've been approached by A LOT more people with questions regarding IC products than I EVER imagined possible. I've given away CASES of diapers & pads. Being a disabled veteran, I get my supplies through the VA which meant I had to go through EVERYTHING on their formulary, leaving me still buying my own diapers/booster pads UNTIL I got through everything that was essentially useless to me overnight and often while awake and believe me, NO CLUE how easy these things were to give away to people I know or am one person removed from (one of my best friend's Father-in-Law) and believe me, to be given products VASTLY SUPERIOR to the garbage they bought @ Wally world (or wherever) was truly satisfying.

they dont come up much, but in situations like that, as a disabled person who has been advocating for disabled rights for quite a while, nothing really changes in my attitude or demeanor. i just sort of approach the situation with the sort of mindset that someone mentioning adult diapers is either like someone mentioning underwear, or a brace, a cane, a crutch, a wheelchair, a pair of glasses, a pair of contacts, a pacemaker... to me it's a pair of underwear and a also normal, every day disability aid. i've only had one person ever bring up specifically adult babies/adult baby diapers in a negative way and i just rolled my eyes and pretended i got distracted and forgot what he was talking about and moved along. it wasn't worth trying to tell him he was being an asshole. the conversation never came up again, either, so it's like, you gotta pick and choose your battles

Like Cpt Kirk and Edgewater, I have been asked about incontinence products by people who are beginning to experience a need for them. That’s a growing number of people lately. I can’t recall a time when the comments and questions were less than respectful
