Degrees and Certificates :: Data Management and Analysis @ Bellevue College (2024)

One of six programs in Bellevue College’s School of Business and Technology, the Data Management and Analysis program helps students develop the latest skills for a career in today’s business world.

The Data Management & Analysis program offers:

  • three (3) Bachelor of Science (BAS) degrees, with concentrations in Business Intelligence, Data Analysis, and Data Engineering.
  • four (4) Certificates of Accomplishment: Business Intelligence Coordinator, Data Coordinator, Data Reporting Analyst, and Database Analyst.
  • one (1) Baccalaureate Certificate for Intermediate Business Intelligence Analyst.

Bachelor of Science (BAS) Degrees

Business Intelligence Concentration

The Data Management and Analysis BAS degree with a concentration in Business Intelligence prepares graduates for roles in data management and data analysis.

This includes relational database design, data interchange technologies, and data warehousing, as well as skills in predictive analytics, reporting, and performance management.

Graduates of this program typically find work as database developers, database administrators, data warehousing specialists, and business intelligence developers.

Data Analytics Concentration

The Data Management and Analysis BAS degree with a concentration in Data Analytics prepares graduates for roles in data analytics, which entails analyzing and interpreting large datasets.

This concentration uses math, statistics, descriptive techniques, and predictive models to better understand data. Good analysis can enable businesses to make better decisions.

Graduates of this program typically find work as data analysts, data technicians, and in some circ*mstances, data managers.

Data Engineering Concentration

The Data Management and Analysis BAS degree with a concentration in Data Engineering is tailored to meet the growing demand ofskilled professionals in the intricate realms of data engineering.

This concentration focuses ondesigning, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines, and delves into critical components like data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and cloud architecture.

Graduates of this program typically find work as data engineers, database administrators, data analysts, and business intelligence developers.

Certificates

Business Intelligence Coordinator

The Business Intelligence Coordinator Certificate of Accomplishment is a 30-credit certificate designed to prepare students for entry-level Business Intelligence (BI) positions in a variety of industries. Students gain skills using BI tools to analyze and report on data in a BI environment and serve as team members in business intelligence and data warehousing projects.

This is an advanced certificate designed for students who know relational database theory and requires a prerequisite ofENGL& 101 with a C or better. The Database Analyst Certificate of Accomplishment may be applied to earn this certificate.

Intermediate Business Intelligence Analyst

The Intermediate Business Intelligence Analyst Certificate of Accomplishment is a 30-credit baccalaureate certificate designed to prepare students for entry and mid-level Business Intelligence (BI) positions in a variety of industries.

Students use state-of-the-art tools to design and create BI solutions. They design and develop database reports, data warehouses, and multi-dimensional databases. Students will also gain skills using BI tools to analyze and report data in a BI environment, and serve as team members on business intelligence and data warehousing projects.

Database Analyst

The Database Analyst Certificate of Accomplishment is a 25-credit certificate designed for entry level positions at the departmental level to create relational databases, develop data input forms, and retrieve and display data for department personnel.

Database Analyst Certificate of Accomplishment

Data Coordinator

The Data Coordinator Certificate of Accomplishment is a 30-credit certificate preparing students for roles that support data analyst and business intelligence professionals.

Students completing this certificate are prepared to design and analyze spreadsheets, write and run data queries, maintain data integrity and security, create data visualization dashboards and reports.

Data Coordinator Certificate of Accomplishment

Data Reporting Analyst

The Data Reporting Analyst Certificate of Accomplishment is a 35-credit certificate preparing students for entry-level positions working with programmers and database analysts to maintain programs, create data analysis reports, work with relational databases and create reports for decision makers.

General Program Requirements

For the prerequisites and requirements necessary for each degree and certificate, download the linked requirements pages.

Note that all technology and/or math credits must not be more than 5 years old. If you do not have transferable college level credits, you have the option to take a placement test to clear/verify prerequisite requirements.

For a list of specific courses that satisfy the following General Education requirements, refer to the respective AAS-DTA transfer list:

  • Humanities
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences

Capstone Projects and Internships

Bachelor’s students will complete either a final capstone project or an internship in their final quarters.

The capstone class (DATA 485) gives students the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned throughout the program and work in settings relevant to their future employment plans. It also allows students to graduate with a project which can be highlighted on their resume/portfolio.

If students find an internship in their area of study that meets the qualifications for EXPRL 490, this may be taken in place of DATA 485. The internship must be approved by the program chair prior to starting.
